Raleigh, NC, February 19, 2019 – TradeMark Properties is once again helping an iconic Raleigh property transition to the future. TradeMark Vice President Sandra Simpson represented the owner in the sale of the historic Gables Lodge to musician Tift Merritt and hotel developer Daniel Robinson for $850,000. The new ownership team is expected to re-open it to guests once restorations are complete.
The original home on the property was built in 1925 and later expanded into a small motor lodge. The Gables Lodge was a popular spot for travelers when U.S. 1 passed through the Mordecai neighborhood near downtown, and rooms were still rented in the motel until 2016. It has been vacant since 2017.
“Helping small iconic properties such as The Gables find a new life and a renewed purpose is part of what we do best,” said Sandra Simpson. “We were especially pleased to be part of this transaction because this property has so much more to give to the surrounding community and to the city overall.”
The motel’s owner, Charlie Griffin, died in 2016, and his great-nephew Tommy Flynn then put it on the market. More information about The Gables and its future can be found at gableslodge.com.
